The all new Windows Phone App Studio – Beta

Microsoft released a new version of the most successful online app building infrastructure which is the “Windows Phone App Studio” Beta version with much more enhanced features and rich UI. For the newbies Windows Phone App Studio is web tool to design and develop windows phone apps on the fly with the in-build templates and data stores. With Windows Phone App Studio you can build simple and near apps with basic features in simple steps.

Windows Phone App Studio was launched last August 2013 and Microsoft claims that it has more than 3,50,000 active developers and more than 300000 projects have been created with the studio with 20,000 apps successfully deployed in the Windows phone Market place. With this success, Microsoft has re-launched another version of Windows Phone App Studio with much more enhanced features like

  • Redesigned UI
  • Rich UI (touch enabled)
  • Rebuild Emulator (real time app flow accessing)
  • Full screen image rotation
  • JPEG to PNG Conversion
  • Complete source code in MVVM Pattern
  • More fluid integration of datasources
  • New templates for companies and businesses
  • Full Visual Studio project for Windows phone and Windows 8

So where you can access the App Studio, since this under beta its on Invitation where you can access the studio at http://appstudio.windowsphone.com/ with you live credentials and you can see the app studio in action. For the existing users once you login to the app studio to see you existing projects click on My Projects at the top and your existing projects will be migrated to the newer version (takes sometime and you will be notified with an email).

Once migrated to the newer platform we can see the apps listed and you as well get an email stating the list of apps that are successfully upgraded to the new Beta of the app studio. Compares to the older version now you can see the apps are listed in a neat UI and presentation looks really awesome.

For creating a new project you can see a list of predefined templates or you can create from the scratch using the Empty App solution. For immediate look around of the template to use, click on any template and you can see the working emulator which you can drag and navigate as per your convenience to check if the template is useful for your requirement.

You can go ahead and create the application or go back and check for other templates. Once you create an application it goes to dashboard where you have option to customize the application with simple 4 steps (Content, Theme, Tiles and Publish Info) which is again pretty neat compared to the earlier version.

Overall its a pretty good update for Windows Phone App Studio, with which the developers can utilize to design your application and take the app to the next level with your own ways of coding.
